Meet Daniel...

After years of running, weight training and martial arts, my body was beginning to break down. I suffered with severe hip and lower back pain as well as tight hamstrings. After some limited success trying to study yoga solo, I found my first teacher, James Sones in Picayune, Mississippi. Several years later, with his recommendation and support, I completed my 200 hour teacher training at Wild Lotus Yoga's Soul School in New Orleans under Sean Johnson and Mitchel Bleier. Later I discovered the Budokon® system, and was fascinated by the combination of the beneficial aspects of yoga, martial arts and meditation, I traveled to Miami to study with the founder, Cameron Shayne, and became Mississippi's first certified Budokon®Yoga instructor. I teach beginners yoga at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, children's classes at The Tide School in Hattiesburg and private lessons. My personal practices include daily zen meditation, challenging physical asana, and training Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

Meet Karen...

Karen is originally from Mobile, AL; however, as a young adult she moved with her husband to Colorado for seven years. This is where she was introduced to yoga for the first time.  She moved from Denver to Hattiesburg in 2003, and her yoga journey continued with a personal and studio based practice. Though Karen has been a long time student, she recently completed yoga teacher training in 2016 and received her RYT 200 certification. She has joined Avara Yoga and teaches on a weekly basis. Karen states yoga is a relief from her busy life as a wife to Dan, mother of 3 busy teenagers (Austin, Meredith, and Henry), and reading tutor at Longleaf Elementary.
